Radiator drain?

I went off roading a few weeks ago with my 86 F150, and somehow the drain petcock for the radiator busted, leaking all of my antifreeze out. I pulled the radiator and fished out what was left of the petcock, but it seemed that it was a multi piece drain. Is this right? When I went to Oreilly, they sold me a drain petcock that looked right but wouldnt fit all the way in, and thus wouldnt seal. I've been on autozone's website and the part they show is the same i got from Oreilly. I don't want to force the new petcock in, and it seems I got the old one out. Did I break what the petcock threads into?

Its a 1986 F150 4x4 300-6, no AC.
Thanks!
