I'm starting the build of my late grandfather's 86 F-150. I'm looking to add a Clifford dual carb intake, but my problem is finding info to choose the correct carb. Clifford offers the Weber 32/36 or the 38/38 carbs as options. Unfortunately I cannot find consistent cfm ratings for these carbs. Does anybody have any info / guidance for running these?
Plans for the build:
Dual exhaust w/ x pipe
Intake / carbs
Ignition upgrade
Mild to aggressive cam
I had one of the 32/36 carbs on my first car - 1972 Ford Pinto. A pair of them on a 300 should be about right. Or the 38/38. Tuning dual carbs is a pita anyway so you'll have plenty of time to get either to dialed in.
The 32/36 is progressive so it should be a little more thrifty on fuel mileage. Other than that I don't know that they're any better than a Holley of Autolite 2100.
IIRC, there's a guy somewhere selling Monza parts that had a bunch of NOS 32/36 for cheap - <$75 a pop.
where in Pa are you? I'm getting ready to part out my 82. Offy c with 600 holley, headers, Ported, and polished head, big cam, steel gears. you may want to make a trip to Md.
I did call Clifford and they were not very reassuring w/ their carb knowledge. I was quoted something along the lines of "Weber does not use cfm ratings. I'm not sure where they even get these ratings, A Holly 390 could probably flow 3,500 cfm"
<--Yes, maybe under 100psi or so. But carbs are rated at some value usually around 1.5" of vacuum.
I also called Redline / Weber, and they gave me a "um, I'd say the 38/38." Then I said I'd be running dual carbs, he responded with, "Oh, I'd say the 38/38. Other people run dual 40's on other cars" So the justification and confidence was not inspiring. If i'm building this I wan't to do it right the first time.
Dustybumpers: I'm in Ohio now, was in York-Lancaster area of Pa previously. How was the holley 600 on your truck?
