im looking find out how much time and cost should i pay , to get my clutch replaced at a shop. i have 74 f100 360 1/2 ton 4 speed. 2 wheel drive
i can get the new parts my self. just labor . one shop said 500 i think that high ? i check with oriley's they said parts 125 .
I would think a good mechanic set up with correct tools could do the job in 2 1/2---3 hours. Check what the flat rate manual says. Does the quote you got include resurfacing the flywheel?
I have had trouble with aftermarket clutches.
Look at Carolina Clutch on the internet.
They sell LuK clutches. This is the brand that Ford put in your truck new.
They have good prices and ship fast.
These clutches work smooth and low pedal effort.
i would not know where to start doing it my self
quote was with flywheel. he said his books didn't go far back to give me a good quote. but at $80 hr seem it would be half of 500 ?

Not a difficult job at all.

Let us talk about adjustment and slippage. When you depress clutch, how far does it go down before it releases? You should have an inch and a half to two inches free play, no more. Will it go into second if you double clutch?
Does the clutch slip?
as soon as push it to floor it go all the way back up as soon as i let off the clutch with no stopping, they looked at it today and said it looks as it as far as it will go on linkage i have have tried double clutch it. didn't help. they check fluid it was full.
I cant talk specifically for Fords, but on a recent [Mopar] project of mine, the clutch linkages had worn over time. I ended up having to weld the eyelets closed a bit to take up some of the slack.
