OK, So, i recently replaced my 3 speed with a newer one from a autozone buddy, who is a huge ford nut, probably a year ago now. Anyway, my clutch recently started slipping. only thing i found on it was on the front near the input spindle, rf c5ar 7050 b, i got on rockauto to order all my parts and found there is a diaphragm and lever action clutch. I'm a little frustrated about but hey, cant be picky. I need info on what clutch it will actually take.
If you have the transmission already removed look at the pressure plate to determine if it's a diaphragm or lever action. If the throw out bearing release bearing engages at three fingers it's a lever action. If there are a bunch of release fingers for throw out to engage it's a diaphragm type. I would personally remove old clutch and go to local parts store and match up what you need. Rock Auto does not save much after you pay shipping usually and if a parts are not right you are going to pay return shipping and restock fees. You may want to have the flywheel resurfaced if it has cracks / hot spots. Hope this information is useful for the project you're working on.
Since you should be replacing everything including the flywheel (or have it resurfaced....IF....you can find a place to resurface it) then you should be able to buy either design.
Diaphragm clutches have less pedal pressure. They are the go to these days. Probably a little more expensive than the lever style.
Rockauto can have good deals, and sometimes not. It may be worthwhile to double check prices against a local auto parts store.
