I have the 5.0 AWD.
I have developed a rather noisy exhaust leak on the right side under the hood.
There is a tube screwed into the top of the right (left if you are looking from front to rear) exhaust manufold with what looks to be a compression fitting. This tube goes into a Y. The Y facing the rear is connected to a hose. The other part of the Y is screwed into something else with a compression fitting.
Looks like an easy fix but what is it called & is it available at a parts store?
I am not an expert but not an idiot either.
Thanks
I think you are talking about the EGR pipe. Be sure this is the problem. Mine was making a noise and the exhaust header was cracked. This engine in the Exporer and Mountaineer seem to be prone to this.

i had a buddy weld mine for me and its been good for a mounth now but man is a b**** to get in and out of there a new one here was $500 so i just had it welded and it cost me nothing
It is definatly the pipe & not the manifold. The pipe is mounted on top of the manifold about mid length. There is a hole in it about the size of a pea & exhaust is coming out of it.
WOW $500 bucks for a new one. I sure hope not or I will be looking for a cheap fix too. I wonder if that would be covered under the emission warrantee?
That is the tube for your EGR valve. If you have a warranty left, they should cover it. If not, find a local muffler shop (preferably someone you trust), and have them reweld it for you and cover the hole.
I found a recall notice on the my problem but not for my vehicle from the NTSB.
Any suggestions?

Hot exhaust gases can leak from exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube on engine. Hole can develop in flexible section of tube. Heat damage to passenger compartment floor and floor covering can occur and result in vehicle fire.
They will only warrant the recall if it is listed for your specific vehicle, and if the VIN number falls into the range of affected vehicles.
It is not a hard fix, but you need someone who is proficient at welding to be able to do it. You take the left tire off, and pull down the fenderwell cover to be able to get to it from a better angle. Ten just eld the tbe and fill the hole. SHouldn't cost that much to do...
Called the dealer & got a new one for $58.00.
Got up staurday morning & had it done in less than an hour. No need to remove the wheel well as I was able to reach everything from the top. I also sprayed it with 3 coats of high temp paint to help retard rust.
