Oil in fuel!

Can anyone tell me why my 03 F350 7.3 that I just bought and have only driven 600 miles was 7 qts low and shut down and my fuel filter housing and fuel tank are full of engine oil? After adding oil it started under protest, cleared out and ran great. I drove it 40 miles home and no oil reads on dipstick. 8 months ago it got new injectors, high vol oil pump glow plugs and harness. Is it injector o-rings? Can I change? I'm a pretty good mechanic but I've never messed with diesels. Thanks.

Sounds like you have very leaky injector Orings, Easy to change, not too bad price wise.

When you got "new" injectors did you install them? I take it you didn't I wonder if they did not lube them well before installing them? Or where did you purchase them? Non OEM orings have been known to fail in such short order.

I'm just going on the guy's word that I bought the truck from. I can tell he's a good guy, don't really feel he's trying to pull a fast one and dump it off on me. I'm taking from the diagram that you have to pull the injectors to change the problem o rings. Is there a site that gives a really good proceedure?

This site right here! I'll try to find a writeup for you. Here's one for now. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...rs-are-in.html

To answer your question yes you do have to pull the injectors, basically, remove valvecovers, then unbolt them, very straightforward, and plenty to do "while you are in there"

just make sure you seat them all the way and Torque them with a Torque wrench, an Inch pound one if you have it. 120 Inch LBS.

Thank you much, I appreciate all the help I can get. For now I have GOT to go to bed. I'll check back in the morning and if any questions I'll post tomorrow night. I'm assuming you buy 1 set per injector and change everything? Will my local Oreilly Automotive parts store carry quality parts for this? Thank's again, Sawzall5150.

Well good night, please do not use orings from a local store, spew a little for the Alliant, if you needed them right now, Ford would likely have some, but will be more expensive. Clay's(Riffraff) link is for a single injector, so yes, you would need 8 of those.

You can do it, just remember these words. Nobody will leave you hanging here, the guys got your back thu the whole process. I never did injector o-rings but did just about everything else with the guidence here.. Clay at RiffRaff performance diesel or Bob at Replacement O-rings for Ford Diesel Engines will hook you up..Alan said it, get good o-rings, no parts store o-rings.

Use the quality O-rings unless you want to get in there yet again!

That RiffRaff link, or the Diesel O-Rings link, will likely be your very-best bet!

Thanks for the thought. Supposedly the glow plugs have been recently changed along with everything else in there. It's obvious that the glow plug harnesses have been changed. I think that whoever did the injectors jacked up a o-ring or two and they waited to puke until I bought the truck. What do you think about this: When I bought the truck last week, I could hear a slight high pitched squealing sound right at the shift point [automatic] at higher rpm when you held it to the floor. After I had the whole loosing the oil episode, filled with oil and drove home, now I can't make it squeal if I try. Is it possible that I was actually hearing the oil blow past the o-ring and now it doesn't squeal because the o-ring is completely blew out?

That's a pretty-unlikely scenario.
