I have a 6.9 diesel, with a new radio, it sounds great at idle or when the truck is off with the key clicked on. But when you step on the gas it turns off, than comes back on???? I rewired it straight to the battery, got a new voltage regulator. I am now out if ideas other than rewiring the hot on ignition wire. Could that be the problem? Thanks
I would also check the connector in the back of the radio. Sounds like a loose wire to me. How is it over bumps or uneven road? I ask cause mine did that for a while then slowly started actually dropping power and stalling. Finally found it when shed died cause when I signaled left she lost all power stalled and I had to tow her home.
Yes it loses the station too, and over bumps its usually fine, my truck shorted out a cpl days ago the cable from the battery touched the frame, and ever since then it started doing this. But the only wire thats not new since then is the hot on ignition
It did it before and cooked the ground wire, and i was able to reconnect it, this time it was so bad the ground just fell apart, ao i ran a new one directly from the radio , the old ground was the one coming from the back of the engine, mounted to the engine itself.. hope that helps
Just tested everything with the truck running and stepping on the gas, power never leaves the guage but the radio still turns off??? I checked the ground too and it was fine, i have a high output alternator, could it be getting too much power without blowing the fuses?
No the voltage regulator will only allow the alternater to put out enough power to keel tbe batteries charged regardless of the alt rating. How r the grounds to the motor from the battery? Having a good ground to the radio from the motor is great but wont help if the motor is getting a bad ground to start with.
Just cause they r tight does not mean they r good. Wires corrode internally, I ended up running an extra ground to the filter housing and my truck ran better and my lights stopped flickering. My stock grounds r tight and making good connections but the wires r old and corroding and u can never have too much or too good a ground, so another ground wire wont hurt anything and yes try grounding the radio to the body
