hey guys, it appears i'm on a wild goose chase. the speedometer barely does anything in my 87 F150 2wd with the 4.9/4 speed (TOD?)...so i pulled the cable/gear. hooked a drill to the speedometer cable and it works flawlessly (BTW, according to my truck's speedometer system, my drill goes 45...lol). looked at the driven gear (not the one in the transmission, the one on the end of the cable) and it's pretty worn. i'd imagine the one in the transmission is worn too, but it's my belief that if i get a better driven gear, the speedometer should work fine.
anyhow, so far i've called auto parts stores (knew i wouldn't find it there), a couple Ford dealers (told it's obsolete, WTF are we suppose to do when they wear out?!), went scouring the junkyards (humorously enough, there's not ONE 87-91 manual transmission F150 in that huge place...there's one manual van there but the gear doesn't match up) and looked in LMC and NPD...so far i've come up blank...there's gotta be some possible way to get these illusive gears.
BTW, i need the tan one. i think it has 18 or 19 teeth. thanks in advance!
Ford Racing Performance Parts still lists speedometer gears on page 182 of the 2011 catalog Ford Racing Performance Parts - [2010 Catalog], so you should still be able to get those from the dealer. I needed a 21 tooth gear and the local dealer had it in stock for less than $5.
