speedometer gear adjustments.
i'm changing from 2.75 to 3.50 gears and i want my speedometer to rejester corectly. what is it i need to do? is it just a gear on the transmission end of the cable? if so how many teeth are on it and where can i get one?

All I did on mine was put a different gear on the end of the speedo cable in the tranny tail shaft. You can probably find one at the auto parts store. Mine just happened to be on the end of a 4x4 speedo cable I had laying around. Just for reference, I went from a 2.73 rear to a 3.55 rear with 31" tires. I changed the 16 tooth speedo gear to an 18 tooth gear, and its only off by about 5 miles per hour at 65. You may be ahead taking it to a shop, if you want it "perfect"

Go to Ford or a speedo shop, take your original gear and tell them the diff ratio change. They have a calculator to figure the gear size you need if your speedo was correct before. Otherwise you can also calculate the required gear based on your speedo error. Sometimes they do not stock the old gears tho so you may need to search around for the gear from a parts store or a junkyard.
