I've had it! I've been fighting the dealership that sold me my truck for weeks now because the tranny is busted. I've been put on hold, accidentally disconnected, talked down to and generally treated like ****. I talked to the General Manager yesterday and told him that if he doesn't fix my truck I'm filing a complaint with the Used Motor Vehicle Commission. Today I did. You see it's Oklahoma state law that every vehicle sold must have at a minimum a air bag and brake inspection prior to being sold. I know my truck didn't have this inspection done. I used to work at this dealership and I know it was routine to not inspect vehicles. I included it all. Names, dates, and vehicles. I got dirt on their business practices and I intend to twist their arm until they replace the tranny in my truck. They want to play hardball then I'm game.
By reporting these violations, are you not possibly creating a problem for yourself? By knowing about these infractions while you were employed there, does it make you partially liable for these violations. What will be your response when they ask you why you didnt report these sooner, or why are you reporting these now when you knew about them before? Just playing devil's advocate. I understand your frustration and hope this problem get resolved.......
I'm hoping to get some sort of whistle blower protection. I feel there was a implied warranty when the salesman shook my hand and said "It's a great truck. It shouldn't give you any problems." At least I get the satisfaction of making them jump through my hoops and do paperwork.
Since you're game and know the dealership, go down there on their busiest day and get LOUD about your truck. They will not want their potential customers to know your not happy. It's worked for me.
Twist their arm? Sounds more like blackmail to me.
You dont say how old the truck is or how long ago you bought it. Did you get a written warranty at the time you bought it? Is the truck still in the warranty period? If so, then get a lawyer
If you wanted a full warranty, you should have bought a new truck or shelled out the extra cash to buy a warranty in my opinion.
Theres a truck driving around town with lemons painted on the rear window that says " XXXXXmotors sells lemons". He is angry because he bought an 8 year old truck and had the alternator blow a year later, and guess what.. the dealer wouldnt pay to fix it! Guess who looks like the idiot in that case.
in minnesota theres a lemon law- i dont know if they have it where you live. if you buy a vehicle, and it breaks within ....
30 days??? they have to cover it. i wouldnt have *their* mechanics fix it... id have them pay a representable repair shop to do it... you never know how much sand they might put in your rear end after they fix your tranny.
as for implicating yourself on the nasty details i dont think theyd try to fry you for digging up dirt on a bigger target=the dealership
I like that paint the window thing. If the "arm twisting" thing doesn't work then I'll do that and have my truck wreckered to a spot across from the dealer. Then I'll stand on the sidewalk every Saturday with a sign until they fix it. When I shell out 14 large for a truck and 5 weeks later the tranny takes a dump I can be a total *******. Maybe I can make up leaflets and put them under the windshield wipers of every vehicle on their lot one night. I know how security is. Use soap to mark up the windows of their showroom. Boy you guys got me going now. I'm pumped! Course these are last resort kinda things only if the "arm twisting" don't work. I got loud at the dealership i bought my Marquis from when I was having engine problems. They told me to leave or they would call the police and have me removed. Part of that though was I was carrying a tire iron in my right hand at the time.
What year is the truck? How many miles does it have on it? Were you offered extended warranty? Most dealerships would offer a goodwill type service. When you bought the truck did you beat them down on price? Just a few questions so I can better understand where your coming from.
It's a 99 F-150 with 82,000 miles on it. Yes I was offered a extended warranty but it was only good to 80,000 miles. The truck had 75,000 on them when I bought it. I didn't think it wise to spend $3500 on a 5,000 mile warranty. I bought the truck for sticker.
Well the bad thing is they don't really have to do anything but most dealers would just to keep customers happy. I hope everything works out for you though.
