Looked thru the stickeys & no information on this procedure. Changed my fuel filter on my 04' F-150 with the recomended tools, & had no problem. But my filter line on my 03' Explorer is problamatic in that it seems to be crimped on one side, of the line coming in from the engine. I don't think it looks normal to be crimped, & my removal tool can't really get into the space for the tool to operate, & ply the gas line off the round circle hump on the fuel filter inlet. The fuel filter is the original, as my miles are only 32000, so it must of came from the factory this way. I'm just plain stumpted. Any ideas out there, as I'm afraid the Stealership will want to replace the whole fuel line from the engine back to the filter $$$$.
Check the info at the address below: My tool for removing the lines has two sizes but they were the same sizes and resisted. Check your sizes close and if they are the same sizes, get in a good position and get TUFF with the tool. Good Luck! jow
I have an '03 sport track i am trying to replace the fuel filter on. I have the tool for popping the lines off the tank side of the filter, and have taken them off. I cannot get the single line off from the other side of the filter running to the engine. The fuel line tool doesnt fit, pulling it off doesnt work and prying it off only makes me angry when it doesn't work either. Does anyone know how to disconnect the fuel filter from the side running to the engine? Thanks.

2. if both inlet and outlet lines are the same size, your tool should fit and the line is just stuck. try spinning the filter and pushing the line in and out of the filter to loosen. if it's a differnt size you'll have to buy that particular size. is it the type of fitting where the tool goes around the line then slips between the line and fitting. sometimes these can be difficult to say the least. keep at it.
I found my paperwork for the extended warrenty that I bought for my Explorer with 2 years left on it, & it covers anything related to fuel delivery & fuel lines. I will let the dealership deal with this problem, this time.
Good Luck! It will be interesting to see if they will change it if it’s not having a problem vs on the service schedule. Such as: I just purchased a truck (not a Ford) 07 V-6 with 43,000 mi Certified with Bumper-To-Bumper Extended Coverage and Factory Drive-Train Coverage. Checking the previous records and current records to Certify the truck the plugs w/n changed @ 35,000 as the schedule recommends. I questioned the matter and was told the truck’s plugs would go 60, - 100,000 w/o a problem. I feel that is true but as they told me if anything happens that could be related to the plugs not being changed, ”it could become a warranty issue”.
Bottom Line! I asked them to change them under Certifying Work that should have covered them as others routine work vs As-Is. They changed the plugs but I’ll never believe they check the 160 items listed. I could see they did the 1,600.00 listed to certify it (new tires, brakes, fluids, filters, details and noticeable routine maintenance). I hope I w/n need the Warranty because they are Dealer Controlled IMO. Excuse The long Post! jow
Turn out the mechanic at my local dealership thinks he can ply off the fuel filter from the damaged inlet. I will find out this coming Monday if he can. I told him that if he can, I was willing to buy him an expensive lunch, versus 3-4 hours labor + parts for pulling the fuel line from the engine out & replacing it.
Yes it was discussed with the service manager. They don't think my extended warranty will cover what they call "vandalism". It's not a defective part, it is a part deliberatly damaged for whatever reason, by who knows whom.
