If you are talking about the round three wire plug for the side mirrors, you have a common, a wire for the up/down motor, and a wire for the left/right motor. The adjustment switch changes the polarity on the common and motor leads to make the mirror move through it's motions.
Just to add, it's been a long time since I've tinkered with a 3 wire mirror, and every mirror thread I've posted in has led down a rabbit hole. Use this information at your own risk.
I'm talking about the rear view not the side mirrors.
In that case, I believe you have power, ground, and a signal from the tranny selector. If the mirror has darkened at night, it will clear if you put the truck in reverse so your vision through the mirror isn't hampered.
I have three wires coming out of the mirror.. Pos neg & what else? I'm trying to do a swap today and I'm dorta stuck..
In my 2000, I had the 3 pin plug on my mirror. The gel went out so I found one at the junk yard out of an 04. It had a 6pin plug. I cut the harness and took it to compare with mine. The wires were the same, and in the same place, just a longer plug. So I had to cut off one tab and the 3pin plug fits into the 6pin of the 04 mirror and it all works. Hope this makes sense.
