Installing 08 mirrors on my 04 Super Duty, I got everything working but want to test my heated mirror to be sure its working and i have the right old wire hooked to the right new wire as I had to retrofit my old plug. When should the mirror be activated, when its cold? When you turn on defrosters ? Need to know how to make power show at that wire so I can test. Also what color is old wire ?
Heated mirrors on our year trucks up to 07 I know for sure (not sure about 08 and up) are on the whole time the key is on newer ones maybe different but doesn't matter to you there is a way to put the mirror heat on a switch so you can turn it on only when you want it. You should be able to find it by googling 99-04 ford super duty heated mirror switch
My '06 service body truck was on the entire time the ignition was on. On my '12, there's a push button on the dash to turn it on. I can't for the life of me understand why
Ford had it set up to heat the mirrors all the time the ignition was on... madness.

Same here with my 06 , on all the time my 08 has a switch.
06 , when they get muddy road spray on them it bakes it right on and you cant see anything.
Id rather not have it , I can scrape frost but baked mud is a pain
