oil consumption
What is typical oil consumption in the psd? Checked oil yesterday and was down 2 quarts, it's been 3k since last oil change and truck just turned 15k. I haven't worked it real hard and was wondering if this is normal?
This is my first diesel so I guess you could say I'm pretty green.

Just drove my truck 1,000 mile trip ( interstate ). No oil used at all.
Drove 70-85 when I could. I have 3,500 miles on this oil change.
I use Shell syn 5w40
Got 17.5 MPG down and 18.5 back on fuel.

Just to add some humor.
my 7.3 IDI Turbo uses about 1qt every 100miles. Took a 10hr trip towing my car trailer and used 7 gallons of oil not including what was in there when i started. yeah its worn out!

I think ford says 1 qt. every thousand miles on normal duty and 1qt. every 800 miles on severe duty is max oil consumption on their test dont quote me if im wrong. take it to your dealer and request an oil consumption test.

My 99 uses no oil between oil changes (5000 mi.). I now have about 97000 miles on her.

oil consumption
166K miles on my truck now, and the oil consumption is the same as always. In 3500 miles, I use 2 quarts of oil. It has never been more or less than that, and the first 1500 miles doesn't use any.
