I would say that is pretty good. I think Ford says 1 quart every 1K is ok. I would be very happy with 2 ever 5K.

2qts every 5k is perfectly fine don't worry about it unless as tj said it uses more than 1qt every 1k miles

acualy its a pre-powerstroke 7.3 it was a great van too till all of a sudden it started going threw oil. it always used a kinda high amount like a quart every 700 miles our so. it only has like 120,000 miles on it as well. but it used to be owned by the railroad, who knows what they did to that poor thing. but anywha he checked the oil one day before leaving and added some got 100 miles up the road he said he pulled off the freeway and the engin sounded almost like the incetors fiering realy loud, he checked the oil and it was almost 3 quarts low. and been going threw about 1 quart every hundrid miles sense

884X4broncoII Has he ever servced the CDR valve? It is that tuna can looking thing, held on with two bolts on the drivers side valve cover if it has a turbo. If a nonturbo it is under the air cleaner on the back side of the air intake. If it has not been cleaned in a while it can suck oil vapors out of the crankcase and burn it causing high oil consumption. It should be cleaned everyother oil change. To clean remove it and soak it in solvent or gas.Repeat until the solvent is clear, then let air dry. Do not use compressed air as that can rupture the diaphram on the inside.

O-rings..Not on an IDI. they don't have injectors like ours. For 1 quart every 100 miles I would bank on a cracked/hole in a piston! or 8!

farmert good call. I haven't worked on those at all other than injection pumps but I have heard of what your are talking about.******** type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_5620978", true); *********>
