transverse leaf spring

got a question, is anyone out there running a transverse leaf spring. i have a few ideas going threw my head on how i am thinking of doing it, going to run the wisbone set up with a track bar. i am thinking of building the brackets off the frame and have a dom tube welded to the bracket for the spring to ride on or the other idea is to use a roller fairlead or turn some bearing bronze or something for the roller to ride on besides the plastic insurt. any ideas will help. thinking the roller cause it will have less resistance and be able to flex and move easier then the dom welded to the bracket for the spring to ride on. if anyone has some pics of there transverse set up that would be great to see some pics. going to be a winter project along with dove tail and bobed bed

Are you talking about an upside down leaf spring mounted left to right instead of front to back? Kinda like old wagons and gasser type cars?

Ive got to say there are better suspensions out there for an offroad truck. Why exactly do you want to do this?

yes only running one spring and it would be parralel with the axle, it is a simple set up has great flex and there is no limit to how far the axle can drop out and it will cost me about a hundred bucks in metal to build the whole suspension set up. running the wishbone link on the front with coils and it works great flexes ten times better then the 3 link i was running with the coils.

No one here running that setup.

Your best bet would be try pirate but my guess is that they'll laugh at you. I dont believe you'll get the flex and handling youre looking for and I certainly do not believe you will get more flex than a properly set up 3 link or radius arm/track bar deal.

You had me thinking so I went to Pirate and searched myself.

This was the only thread I found with positive feedback on a suspension system like you are talking about. - this guy only ended up with 6" of up and 8" of down travel = very do-able with cage coils and extended radius arms. Paul (CaptainP4) probably has that much or more on his B-hoe and Im quite certain Fishy did also.

anyway, heres the link
M-151 Build Thread - Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board

All the other threads I found didnt have positive feedback from their results as I expected.

This isnt a new idea. Its 150yr old technology that was left in the 70s before coilovers and link suspensions became popular.

My 37 has front suspention kinda like that....

Anyways, its prob doa le easy, not my first choise.

Plus suspention flex was nexer a limiting factor on my wheeler.

But I'd do a rolller on the end of the leaf if I where u.

thats what i was thinking was a roller and i cant see spending the thousands of dollars in the links and joints and all the other stuff needed when i have everything in the back yard for the transverse spring and i would rather put all that money in my tow rig building the motor. will get some pics together when i swap the suspension out and build it
