Hey fuys im in the process of putting add a leaf helper springs on the front of my 4x4. 250 and im curious how important it is to have the peg go from the spring to the axle. The problem is that the extra leaf causes the peg to no longer go into the axle, so how important is that? Also if it matters I am running front trac bars I just need the extra spring to hold the extra poundage of my front weight bar. Any input or thoughts are greatly appreciated
You should have a hole in the add-a leaf it self and make sure you use a longer leaf spring pack bolt. Long enough to go thru the add-a leaf and in the spring pad hole.
Also open up your old spring clamps and reuse then best ya can around the new leaf to clamp the pack together.
Also retorque it all at 100, 500 and 1000 miles, you will be amazed at how it will settle and loosed up things.
Lol. Yeah one leaf slips out towards the front & another out towards the back. Makes for a interesting ride home once they come loose. Don't ask me how I know this. Ain't fun!
the center pin locate the spring to the axle, VERY IMPORTANT that all pins fit into holes . to install new add-a-leaf hold spring pack together with c-clamps, remove old center pin. install new add-a-leaf, install new center pin and new ubolts. done. re torque after 100 miles or so.
Do they sell longer center pins? This is on the front of the truck so it should be on the bottom of the pack no worries about splitting the springs apart
If I remember right my add-a leaf came with it.....if not a grade 8 bolt with a allen head on the end that will fit tight in the leaf spring pad and a nut that will fit in the top plate hole.
And you should have a leaf spring clamp bolted around the leafs, on the rear of the pack. You will need to take it off and re-install after you put the add-a leaf on.
That keeps them from twisting, and DO THE RETORQUE! Its also best to put on new u bolts cause they are fine thread and can get stripped easliy when taking the nuts off.
But like most folks and even me, I reused them. Just make sure you have the threads REAL clean and do not mix up the nuts and what U-bolt they came off of.
