'75 steering box too loose

I have quite a bit of play in my steering and was interested to get feedback on easy ways to get it tighter, with or without a rebuild kit.

First I would do a dry park test. With the truck off, have a helper turn the wheel through its free play (usually about 2"). Then you go underneath the truck while he is moving it and check for play on between the draglink and the pass. ball socket. Then move to the tie rod and the drivers ball socket. Then move to the centerlink on both sides (pitman arm and knuckle side) and finally check the pitman arm. If all of those aren't loose, check your worm bearing preload and gear mesh preload. If those all check out okay, check your steering shaft and after all that, then order a redhead box or whatever your heart desires!

If you still have the power assist intact often times there's a lot of play in the control valve (where the pitman arm ball stud connects).
