I towed a trailer over a big hill today, the first tow I've had since I installed my SGII. My ECT is normally at 190 unloaded, a little more climbing hills, and my EOT usually within 9 degrees, even on hills. Today, my ECT climbed to around 215-220, and my EOT started to climb towards the top of the hill as well, I think it peaked at near 220. After cresting the hill, my ECT dropped right away back down to 195 and slowly down to 190. My EOT hung up at 218, eventually 215, then down to 210, and then seemed to wanna stay up above 205. This is around the 15 degrees danger mark. I was on rolling hills for the rest of the way home and my EOT stayed above 200 until I was nearly home, even though ECT's had dropped to normal. Eventually they came back down to 8 degrees, but this was like 20 minutes of rolling hills after the big hill.
So my question is obviously from reading others deltas, its normal for ECT and EOT to climb to those temps while towing hills, but how quickly do your temps drop in comparison to each other? Is my experience normal? I'll be taking the same relatively light out interstate 68 tomorrow, which is all hills, so I guess I'll learn more about my temps on hills then, but Im kinda hoping someone will tell me if this is normal for a truck with a healthy cooling system.
You sound normal to me. Ect/eot deltas were meant for fully warmed up engines on level ground, towing or empty. Ten to 20 miles on level ground to let things level out is normal. Ambient temps can also have a great effect.
Yours is acting like mine does when I pull long grades (I live in southeastern ky alot of good size hills) with my 34' tt it seems like it takes a while for eot to come back down but from searches I've done seems normal when towing heavy loads.

Yes Sir... Sounds normal. Your oil temp will lag behind your coolant pretty significantly at times. I have the air cooled oil system and you just described how mine acts as well. Pulling loads in the summer, I'll see 235 oil temp with coolant at 220. Fan comes on loud and pulls coolant down pretty quickly, oil pretty slowly.
