So when I was replacing my valve cover gasket today I discovered that my passenger side engine mount's rubber is gone. My engine is slanted now leaning on whats left of the mount and my Y-pipe.
I'm stopping in the junk yard on Friday to pick up another one and some door locks and other parts. How bad is it to drive with it like this? I think it happened last Wednesday and have put a couple hundred miles since it happened so nothing bad has happened yet.
I'm not sure what the savings would be getting a engine mount at a junk yard.. Why not buy a new one, they are not that expensive.. One from a junk yard is going to be oil soaked/ dry rotted and in about the same shape as the one you are taking out.. Unless you just enjoy replacing engine mounts, then go for it..
I'm not trying to give you a hard time about this.. Just trying to understand the reasoning....
As for driving it, as long as the exhaust holds out and you don't get on it too hard in reverse it "should" make it a day or two. But, if you wind up with a broken exhaust you will know why...
well for things like that, this junk yard doesnt charge for it and I needed to go anyway. Hopefully the exhaust doesnt break because I just replaced everything except the manifolds.

There IS a reason they don't charge for things like USED MOUNTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
they are NOT expensive at all on these trucks and not hard to change. Dont buy at junkyard. It really hurts other compnets to keep driving that way especially if it is a stick. crossy
I bought the new engine mount for $26 and started to take the old one off today. Got 2 of the 3 bolts out of the engine block and the nut off the bolt that holds the other part of the mount to the crossmember.
I cant get the last bolt out. It had a ground wire nutted to it and I got that nut and wire off but the other nut/bolt still wont come out. It wiggles back and forth a couple degrees. I dont know if its cross threaded or something or what.
I have a breaker bar but not an extension or deep well socket big enough to get on it. I need my truck as a daily driver and I esp need it before this friday. Any tips?
Sounds like you need a few more tools at your disposal. If it wiggles around something is definitely wrong. Isn't that a stud pressed into the block? Or am I thinking of something else?
well it wasn't a pressed in stud but just a really badly cross threaded bolt. the idiot who I bought the truck from must have put it in crocked, doesnt surprise me one bit though. You all shouldve seen this truck when I first got it....
Heres the bolt, I had to take it completely out with a breaker bar, 1/4 turn at a time
