My 92 F150 5.0 with AOD and 4wd got put in water up to the door handle on the driver side to the bottom of the door on the passenger side. It was in the water for about 20 minutes. Pulled plugs and water came out of some of the plug holes. I think the water came in from the exhaust, it is cut off behind the cab and just has the converter and a y pipe. Drained engine oil and put in new oil and filter. Drained auto trans oil, it was not pink. Drained transfer case it was pink, we pulled it one mile after it came out of the water. Both differentials looked clean and were at normal level, front may have been a litte over the plug bottom. Pulled out fuses under the dash and above fender and dried them. Cranked engine with plugs out and then let it sit for an afternoon. Put plugs back in and tried to start , but it would n't take off. Put new cap and rotor and ignition module by fender. Tested fuel pressure, at first it didn't come up when the key was on, but I am not sure if the gauge was purged. Swithed tanks and turned key on and pressure comes up to 40, cranked the engine and stays around 40. Second tank same reading. I have spark at the plugs and plugs smell like gas and are wet but engine won't start.
Anyone have any suggestions what else it might be?
I pulled out the rug, can I throw it in the wash machine or will it ruin the foam in back? Seats also smell, not sure what to do with that either.
One last question, a while back there was a digital code reader listed on this site for around $70, can anyone tell me where I can order one, all the ones in stores around here seem to be a lot higher or not available for these older trucks.
I got the cord with mine around 10-12 years back, I'm thinking it was about half as much as the reader. You don't really need the long cord to use it, but it is handy if you have it..
Check for spark, the distrubitor is probly full of water shorting out the high side. Also check the ECU for any water dammage, with water up to door handles, the ECU can be wet and will not work properly.
Best thing to to is pull the ground off the battery and start using lots of WD-40 to rid water from the electrical system! Let it dry and hope for the best. Most likley in time the ECU and other wet electronics will start acting up from the water.
