It won't hurt your engine to take it off. Not sure if your state has inspections for this though. Also have to check and make sure your linkage for the carb, trans. kick down is ok if you remove it and go lower. Might be a better idea to remove it and put a regular spacer in the same size. I think with the carb sitting higher the fuel has more time to atomize. Not sure about that though. Removing this will not help your truck run better unless there is problem with it. Had a couple of these, especially if it's aluminum, rot out on some of my vehicles.
The original 'factory installed' EGR/carb spacer plates were aluminum. Heat caused them to burn up and/or MELT internally. Carbon build-up was typical problem.
The FoMoCo Service Part Replacement EGR/carb spacer plates were cast iron.
You should not eliminate the EGR system. There is a lot of information on this forum about why you shouldn't; use the search function to pull up past threads.
If you remove it you would need to get a expansion plug to plug the exhaust hole that is down in the manifold. There are more than a few different factory egr spacers and the way they shape them, some aftermarket spacers won't cover up the hole. You should tear the dizzy apart and make sure the advance is set in the short slot too.
Thanks alot to all you guys..I think I am going to love this forum! Got another question... same truck was left without intake manifold off for years....tore the engine apart today, gunkie but it only had about 30,000 miles on it...what you guys suggest on cleaning internally without total tear down (bearings ect.)? Or should I repost this in another section of forums?
