Newbie with questions.

Ok so I bought this 1965 F100 240 cid one bbl carb. VIN # F10AC779279 Flareside out of a pasture for $400.00. Sheet metal is in great shape with very little rust and seems to be almost complete After a new battery, some gas and a few tries it started up. but the carburator was pouring gas and the owner said "I wouldn't drive it until I had the brakes worked on." Hauled it home went through front and rear brake systems replacing everything. New wheel bearings and seals front and rear. Had the carb rebuilt. Guy that rebuilt it said he thought it would be ok but wouldn't guarantee it. I know the truck was assembled in Canada. Carb tag had been removed but had FOMOCO stamped on it. My question is.. What is the carb. adjustment upon initial start up? There is one switch on the dash on the passenger side next to the steering wheel that has no bezel but has 2 wires attached. that I don't know what it does. I am sure I will have lots of other questions as I go along. Thanks for your input and nice to meet all you guys.

Based on the information you provided, you have a 1966 model truck. F10 indicates a two wheel drive F100 pickup. A is the engine code for the 240 cid I6 1 bbl in 1966. O is the assembly plant code for Ontario, Canada. 779279 tells us your truck was built in November, 1965. You should have a metal tag riveted to the face of your driver's door with two more lines of information on it. Post those and we can tell you lots more about your truck. If the driver's door has been replaced then the tag may be missing or wrong. The switch on the dash, if it's the one closest to the middle of the dash, sounds like the heater fan switch. The wires for that are orange and brown. There should be a bezel, which will differ depending on whether you have a standard or deluxe heater installed. Hope this helps.

To the right of the column, there are three holes in the dash. If so equipped, the heater switch is mounted into the far right hole, not in the middle hole.

There are different switches, as it depends on...if the truck has the deluxe fresh air heater...or not.
F10 does not decode to a 'pickup' until 1973. It only decodes to F100 2WD.

These trucks were available as a Cab & Chassis, w/a factory installed Platform (Flatbed), Platform & Rack (Stakebed). Long & short Flareside & Styleside pickups, and two Open Drive-Away's: Chassis & Cowl, Chassis & Windshield.

Because of this, there is no way to prove by the VIN or any codes on the Warranty Plate what "back of cab" equipment these trucks had "as original."

All the above except the Open Drive-Away's have a conventional cab, body style 81.

Body style 83: Flareside, body style 99: Styleside. But neither of these codes will be found within the VIN or on the Warranty Plate.

Body style 84: Chassis & Cowl. Body Style 85: Chassis & Windshield. These trucks have no cabs.

Ice cream trucks, for example are Open Drive-Away's, could be either body style.
