Is it a 67 or 69? How can I tell?

Alright all you 1967-1972 F-250 owners....I think I have a frankentruck....My title matches the plate on my driver's side door that says it is a 1969 F-250 4x4...But, my rearview mirror is attached to the ceiling (not the windsheild) and my heater controls are three ***** that pull out and the fan one twists also..(i.e.: no horizontal sliders)....Most all of the id tags for the engine, axles, trannies are missing or very hard to read.....where else on the body/frame should I look for other numbers to figure out what is what?

It's a '67.

The ceiling mounted rear view could be duplicated by removing the windshield mounted rear view and changing the trim on a '68 and up to the '67 type, but the heater controls can't.
As you know, from 68 up the heater controls were slider units and a hole was cut out of the dash plate to mount the assembly in the dash. Well, I suppose even that could be duplicated too, but it would take alot of time and a good welder, then a repaint, and then the trouble to locate the correct '67 *****, cables and blower switch.
Nope buddy, it's a '67 unless the cab was replaced with an older one due to some kind of damage to the original.

The frame up close to the front will say C7AE or whatever. C7 being 67 C8 being 68 C9 being 69. The cab is def a '67. Do the doors have little tiny armrests with the handle outside of them? The 68-72's have the handle inside the armrest.

From what I can see in your gallery, your grille IS a '67 but your hood is not.

Where on the frame is the c7AE or whatever....are you talking about one of the two main beams of the truck frame or is it on a cross member or the frame itself? I've been looking all over and don't see much, so I need some specific locations (in detail that is) Thanks for the info Ceet!

Mine is right on the driver side frame rail. Poke your head under the fender by the front driver side tire. And about 6" back from where the front bumper mounts mine reads C7TA GM 2H. So, C7 being '67. Let us know!

Just a FYI my '68 Camper Special frame number (not the VIN) is EDC8TEU25.

For title purposes, the frame VIN is what the DMV wants if you don't have a door VIN. I am surprised your door VIN is correct. Somebody must have swapped door tags or your door is a '68. What kind of door release handles do you have? The kind with a handle you pull up or the squeeze kind?

Also, what does the emblem say on the rear sides of the bed? It's hard to see. '67 - '69 either had nothing or Ranger.

My interior seems to be '67 all the way....I even have the metal door panels with the lever style door release....no armrests at the moment, but I found a pair in Ebay! As for the bed trim...I do have the script "ranger" logo w/ red/white/blue bar....I was working on my wiring with a 1969 Wiring diagram book and found it to not quite be correct....so I'm thinking I probably have a '67 with at least one door from a 1969 truck...and I though my parts were hard to find BEFORE! What are the hood details for 67 68 and 69....as far as I can tell my hood looks like Ceet's but he said it was not from a '67.

By the way, thanks for the details on the rail markings...the one behind my front axle (pass side) was imprinted lightly and crooked...about all I can make out is *F26 then the numbers are dull and the series part is off of the rail by the last digit. I just bought a camping mirror to look for the one under the cab....but I'm sure I'll have to clean it w/WD-40 and a brush before I can read anything.

HOOD: '67-72 hoods interchange but the holes for the emblems are differnet.

HOOD F O R D: '67-69 had small F O R D emblems with lines inside of them. 70-72 were bigger with no lines.

SIDE EMBLEMS ON HOOD: '67 were a style of their own, like mine. 68-72 had a bigger emblem with an orange reflector on 'em.

Also, on your doors check your vent wing handles. 67-? had squared off edges with a little handle on the handle itself. 70's style has a rounded handle that goes horizontal only and flips vertical to open the window.

Don't feel bad. My truck 'Frankie' is a '68 (frame VIN) but I have found parts frm at least 4 different model years.

Not always. My '67 had the L-shaped vent handles, but my '68 has straight ones (no extra handle).

Here's the F-O-R-D difference they're talking about:

'67-69 on the bottom, '70-72 on top

I have the "L" shaped vent window closers....So I'm pretty certain at this point that the truck was a '67......by the way.....the door number is NOT correct....according to the door, the truck is a '69....which it clearly is not. As for the hood Letters, I don't have any.....and I kind of like it that way....My favorite thing has got to be the fan switch.....a **** that pulls out to mechanically open the heater ducts to the fan and then the **** twists for the electrical switching of off, Hi, Low....pretty cool!

That doesn't mean it was original. I almost know for a fact that the L shaped was on 67's. Why would ford make 2 different types in one year? They didn't. They changed it prolly in '68 because of saftey regulations.
