I am soon to own a 66 F-100 that has a pretty bad dash surface. Been searching for one of those plastic formed caps that you can glue on but so far it looks like they only go back as far as 67 for the F-100. Any got any info on this ? thanks.
Dennis carpenter sell the whole new pad but they are $500
Carpenter doesn't make the padded dash, he buys it from Just Dashes located in Van Nuys CA. They also repair padded dashes, but this doesn't come cheap either.
If the padded dash is bad, it can be removed, cuz the dashboard is painted underneath it. An adhesive remover will be needed that will not damage the paint.
Remove the spacers from the radio speaker, so it will sit level with the dash. The mouldings can be left in place while the dash is being removed...if one is careful.
The mouldings are attached with steel scissors clips. Unless one is Superman, pliers are needed to squeeze each clip together, so the mouldings can be removed. This takes time...and patience.
Bill what was the name of that adhesive remover that you recommended to get the glue residue off of the dash? Acrysol or something like that? Is it still available? I'm thinking of removing the dash pad on mine and just going with a painted dash.
Getting all the glue off with an adhesive remover without damaging the paint
is going to be hit or miss really, I have access to a lot of chemicals, and none
got the goop off very well.
I ended up sanding it and repainting it...two years later, still looks nice enough.
Acrysol is what I've used in the past...it's made/sold by Kent Industries. Kent has "road men" (outside salesmen) that visit dealerships throughout the US selling them their products.
I think Acrysol is also available online...removes adhesives, bumper stickers and etc w/o damaging the paint.

Acrysol is the only thing I would use because it works so well!! When I worked in an autobody shop that was all we used to take 2 way tape off factory mouldings and enblems as well as any old pin stripping glue, IMO nothing else works as good.
Thanks all for many helpful replies..., but my actual question was " does anyone make a plastic dash cap for a 66 f-100?" You know , that $ 99.00 version.
LMC makes a velour dash protector that is available for either with or without the dash pad. The cover is black and sells for $44.95. I took my pad off because it was so cracked up and looked bad. I plan on getting one of these once I get my truck put back together.
Both carpet and velour dash covers are available from every autoparts store. Usually have to be ordered from one of the dozens of companies that offer them.
Which is the same thing that LMC will do...when you place your order. Eliminate the 'middleman' and order direct.
