Does anyone know where I can buy a plug in connector adapter for a 1986 truck to plug into the truck factory wiring for a trailer wiring connector? I want to replace the old spliced in trailer wiring. Thanks
I hard-wired in a universal harness kit, and I think it was the very next day that I received an LMC catalog in the mail listing that plug-in harness. lol
Thanks for the good tips, sounds like I can get one somewhere. Mine was still spliced in with the old split wire splicing things, and my trailer lights hardly ever works.
I used some big crimp-on butt connectors and in one end put the wire from the truck harness, in the other end I twisted together the end that goes to the taillights and such, and the corresponding wire from the trailer harness. Haven't had any issues in the several months I've had it installed, and if I ever make myself do it, I need to get under there and hit all the connections with a lighter since my connectors are heat-shrink wrapped out of the box. lol
I built my original setup using in-line fuse holders and relays for the stop and turn keeping Ford's original running light source. I just prefer having my trailer stuff separatley fused and fed through relays. One nice feature of this is the flasher always sees the same load. My updated harness system retains this, but everything is now in enclosed boxes.

I found one at NAPA somebody suggested, but I like your idea of having a separate circuit for the trailer. I think the whole original light circuit of the truck has one fuse, so if the trailer is hooked to this circuit, it is possible blow the fuse by having a short on the trailer wiring and then all the lights go out even on the truck, welll, except the headlights I guess.
