In the glovebox of my truck there are two bags. One with the reverse camera wiring cap and the other with a trailer wiring harness. I have the max tow package and the integrated brake controller. Do I need this extra trailer wiring for anything? Or do they just throw them in every truck?

Yes if you run a AUX out to a trailer for trailer brake batt chargeing or Aux trailer lighting.
The relay goes into the trucks relay box in engine compartment and as far as i know the wireing harness is for when you dont have the TBC. But i aint seen anyone need that yet.
the wires are for a aftermarked trailer brake controler so if you have the factor installed one you can just throw them away you'll never need them but if you don't have the factor tbc you'll still need them

You don't need the harness with the factory TBC but you still need to install the relay and fuse IF you need the trailer battery charge circuit active.
No problems as long as the trailer's plug is wired correctly. Ford leaves the fuse an relay out as a safety precaution because that circuit can deliver high enough current to cause a fire inside the trailer before the fuse blows, if the trailer plug isn't wired in the standard configuration. This is more of an issue with travel trailers.
Even if you don't need the battery charge feature, having the 12v available back at the bumper can be handy with a trailer plug to 12v adapter outlet for something like a 12v air compressor.
alright, well i dont think ill be pulling any travel trailers anytime soon. car haulers at the most. my buddy has a couple mud trucks he is wanting to take out in a few weeks and i was gonna pull them.
So when I haul my tractor up to my food plots, all I have to do is plug my trailer (with brakes) into the plug on the back of the truck and my factory trailer brake control should work correctly without the extra wires?
As long as the trailer's connector is wired correctly, yes it will work. When you plug the trailer into the truck's connector, it will activate the TBC (it will light up) and you can then set the controller's gain.
I have found the Ford factory controller to be the absolute smoothest and best performing trailer brake controller I've ever used. It's well worth the nominal cost as a factory installed option.
