I want to replace the gauges in my '59 f250. It has gray stock '60 gauges which I always thought looked really nice but my fuel gauge is shot, coolant gauge isn't much better.
I want a new fuel, coolant, oil pressure and voltage but am leaving the stock speedo. Does anyone have any suggestions on new gauges that look close to stock? Doesn't need to be a reproduction just something that somewhat resembles the stock?? Gray back, orange needle, white numbers/markings.
Have you verified that the problem(s) are the gauges? The float/sending units in the tanks do go bad,and a new temp sending unit is cheap. Compare that to the money and hassles of changing over to new guages that may or may not be compatible with stock sending units. They are frequently available as NOS on the Bay for cheap,or NumberDummy might locate them for you.
yea I checked, the fuel guage stocked working a while ago, took it apart and the wire were broken, swapped the grey faceplate onto a '59 gauge but that gauge is pretty shot too. I'd like to have all new ones anyway, plus I don't have volt or oil at all. I can always get a new sender.
The new gauges can be modern looking I just want one with that color scheme. I'd actually prefer new gauges than NOS.
that ebay set is ugly.
I've seen the autometer gauges, they're not bad but I don't like the black, just want a modern gray background, orange needle and white markings.
What other gauge brands are there? Seems like they make every other color combo. I just really like the look of the stock '60 gauges, that's why I'm keeping the speedo.
Out here where I am, all the autozone/oreilly/advanced auto carry sunpro and very select (small dia) items in equus.
There might be others, but when I was digging for mine those seemed to be the only ones that came up frequently (I was trying for something I wouldn't necessarily have to order, something fairly common).
I saw a very customized 57-60 panel truck at the CarCraft Summernationals this past July. The owner had a set of gauges in a polished, stock 57 dash panel. He bought them right out of Ford's replacement parts book. They're universal and have a vintage vibe to them. I have not personally gone down to the local Ford garage yet to look them up and order them but that is what I plan to do when I get to the point of restoring the dash in my 60. My gauges are all baked from sitting in the Arizona desert for 50 years.
Wouldn't it be easier to replace with stock gauges for an exact match,at a relatively low price? After all,NOS is new.I,or NumberDummy might be able to locate them, fuel and temp. gauges??
Also, member camperspecial65 ,just started a thread concerning a 1960 F100 he found in a Seattle wrecking yard, and asked if anyone needed parts pulled from it:
