Hello, I am looking for a set of gauges for my 52 truck, I have converted to 12 volt and so I am thinking its just easier to up-date my gauges with new ones designed for twelve volt but I do not have 2-3 hundred dollars to spend and am not trying to impress anyone at any shows.
I am only needing to replace the gas, oil, temp and charge gauge,( which were all originally enclosed within the single glass set to the right of the speedo gauge) I will keep the stock speedo. Anyone here know of a company making this set-up that is affordable
when i did my 55, 6 volt positive ground, i used the stock gauges and sending units, infact when i upgraded the temp sending unit to 12 volt it didnt work right, one day in a wrecking yard i spotted a flat head V8 with the temp sending unit in it, took it out and installed it in my 55, worked perfect. when i talked to a classic car restorer shop i was told the gauge/sending units didnt know the difference between 12 volts and 6 volts. anyway it worked for years without any problems, also stuck with the 6 volt starter without any problems. i did change the wiper motor and heater motor.
Many people have stripped out the original gauges and found a newer factory panel at a junkyard to adapt the gauges from.
Others have made (or bought) a new bezel that accepts 2" aftermarket gauges. I have seen this type of bezel for a 48-50 for $50 on Ebay (polished aluminum with speedo hole and 3 or 4 smaller gauge holes).

Thanks, were you able to use the tank sending unit ( 6 volt ) with your 12 volt system and if so what gauge did you end up using?

Thanks, this is what I have done already, I guess I bough the wrong type of gauges though cause I dont like looking at that stupid little plastic clear oil tube and rusty coiled wire water temp sending unit wire running through the firewall.

Thanks, that will help, I wish ( very much ) that I did not get rid of the original gauges but that I kept them instead and figured out a way to make them work. Maybe I will try and find the original set somewhere again.

12V gauges look just like the 6V gauges.
Part number/sources edited into post 6. It's a good idea to call all the sources and compare prices, because obsolete parts prices vary wildly from one source to another.
But, I'd rather not have to list them all...and there are dozens! When there's this many, I'd rather do it via telephone, but I'm taking a Hawaii cruise 12/05-12/20, so it'll have to be before...or after.
