So long story semi-short, my boss got into a fender bender on the way home from our barn last week. She wasnt driving one of our staff memebers were. They rear ended someone and then got hit from behind. Thank God everyone involved is ok... Besides my boss's mini-van, its totaled. SO I have convinced her that since we run a horse barn and she needs to seat lots of poeple and perhaps be able to tow a horse trailer a diesel excursion is the way to go!
Now here is the one that i have the most intrested in. It is well optioned out its at a dealer (she needs to get a loan for it so thats a plus) and is super clean. It has 210,xxx on it and is right at blue book for the year options ect. 2wd is a plus in this situation because it is less maintnence and lower (my boss is disabled). There seems to be a lack of pictures but i am considering going to look at it on Monday.
If someone round here (stewart cough cough) or anyone els could grab me an oasis on it that would be great.
Shhhhhhh...don't tell anyone, but I'm somewhat partial to the 4x2 7.3L Excursions myself.
Heck, offer them $3,000 lower than asking, and work your way up. Worse they can say is "No." See what kind of warranty they might throw in, and play-up the 210,000 miles. "Yeah, well, I guess the motor will be fine, but as soon as that transmission goes...it's another $4k!!! And electrical, A/C, etc.? I mean THE TRUCK has 210k miles on it!!!!"
ya im a pretty good wheeler and dealer... also i figure I can play the "the add said it was 4x4" card and get them to come down because i drove an hour to see it. If it hasnt had a tranny put in it at 210k i will be a little scared. But then again i know this guy that has an ex with 230+ on a stock tranny (cough peter) and drag races it (cough cough duck fan) and has a dp tuner and stage 1 injectors and an aftermarket turbo AND beats it like a rented mule! And the tranny seems to be great! So... i dont know. oh and tows with it also.
P.S... Peter's transmision was built on a friday afternoon on payday after the guys boss just bought him lunch at a steak house.
We purchased our 2000 4x4 Excursion in February of 2011 for $11,500. It had 191,000 miles on it and diesel was hovering around the $4 mark. I spent about 2 hours crawling around it and testing it with Auto Enginuity.
With those miles be prepared to need some suspension work, brakes and ball joints. That was at least my experience. I also bought it understanding that sooner or later I would need to rebuild/replace the tranny. After all, it had - 200,000 miles on it.
Also, check the steering wander when you test drive it.
Not trying to scare you away from the purchase - the Excursion is an awesome vehicle but there are a few common things that need to be replaced/repaired in these beasts. We used ours last week out at the hunting lodge to tote around 8 people and all their pheasant hunting gear.....it's sure is the King of SUV's!!!
oops, almost forgot - Like Matt said above - 12K seems to be more reasonable. Not sure what Kelly Blue book value is on Excursion's in California but I would check it out along with asking the dealer to e-mail you some more interior pics. It looks like a nice clean vehicle and it is a 2002 Limited - very nice. As you know - the 7.3L Excursion is getting harder and harder to find and the dealers know it - so be prepared to haggle hard.........
It sure would work great for what you intend to use it for!
I hope that works out for you, that's a nice find Nolan.
If it's not an east coast rust belt import or have been wrecked and salvage titled, I would get it and fix whatever it needs.
Looks nice Nolan. You know what to look for on them. If you need a hand wheelin and dealin let me know........ I can be very persuasive, We can grab a pizza after too. ;-)
Nice find Jeff! Unfortunetly banks are hard pressed to give you an auto loan for a private seller. and 99% of banks have a 7 year old rule anyway. Thats why looking at dealerships with financing avail. is whats going to have to happen.
The blue book on the vehicle is $15,620 suggested retail and $13,845 private party. So i feel like there is some room to play. Ofcourse im am going to inspect it as much as possible and ask more questions then they can answer. So we will see how it goes. Thanks for the imput!
Also if any of my localish friend can search around their areas as Jeff did for ones at dealerships that would be appreciated.
2 years ago I paid $13,000 even for my Eddie Bauer 2wd Excursion... 2003 with 132K miles on it. Southern truck, never in snow and salt, absolutely no corrosion anywhere, leather, captains chairs, loaded.
