I have a 2000 F250 with a 7.3L. Yesterday, warming up my truck after work there was a noticeable change in the idle sound, sure enough I jumped in the truck to find a check engine soon light. I only have a superchip to read codes with (for diesel) and it is giving me the P1316.
I researched enough to find out it's Injector Circuitry / IDM codes. I guess there's a way to get the IDM codes from my SuperChip but nobody elaborated on the method. I do have an OBDII / CAN reader but it doesn't read my truck :-/
If there's anything else that you guys need to know to help, I'll be standing by the computer and checking every 15 min or so
Is there a post that goes more into detail for taking off the valve covers?
I'm resigned to this being the problem; it just makes sense but since I have to pull one cover, I'm the kind of person that would just like to do both clips at the same time and wipe out the problem permanently. I'll check my glow plugs while I'm in there.
Also with regard to the lower injector hold downs, am I correct in assuming I can use a ft. lb. torque wrench set at 10 lb? I only have in in. lb. screw driver that I think only goes to about 45. Suggestions?
Did you get a chance to watch the video ?? it shows the important thing to look out for while taking them off.. im sure someone here has a link to a do it your self.. the video show a fast way to check what side is badbefore you start..
As the tech said, the 02&03s have an updated clip that doesn't need the 50 cent mod. You shouldn't have needed to do it on your SD, maybe on the Excursion as it is older.

Perhaps you didn't read the previous information... My computer is running linux from a CDROM and does not have the plugin to watch the movie
Well, passenger side is off... that wasn't too bad; harness was clipped in just fine so it must be the driver side.
Chris, you said something about giving the injector a 1/4 to 1/2 twist... how exactly do you do that? Do you have to remove the top of the injector to do that? Can anyone elaborate?

IDK about that, but don't forget to torque down the rockers while you are in there. And be sure to check for burnt pins/connections in the harness.
I don't know about twisting the injector, but be sure to torque down the lower injector hold down bolts and the rocker arm pedestal bolts while you're in there.
I just realized what was meant by "1/4 to 1/2 a turn" was the lower injector hold downs. I went and bought an in-lb torque wrench just for this (I'll be able to use it on inspection calls to electrical boxes also). So 20 Ft-lb to the rockers and 120 in-lb to the injector hold down... I'm on it; and I will check for burnt pins.
It seems it was the driver side that came off; I've already defaced two quarters to the chagrin and confusion of my girlfriend. I just told her it costs $.50 to fix the truck. :-P I'm not sure if I'll show her where they went <chuckle>
