mile marker 449ss

i need new hubs for my x, i want to go with the mile marker hubs. i have never dealt with hubs before. so my question is, when you get the mile markers. do you have to have a conversion kit of some sort? or do you just take the junkie factory ones out and slide these in?

also i talked with summit racing and they said they do not fit the x. i wanna make sure they fit before i buy them.

thanks (new to the site) sure its been asked before

Not sure about the MM449's, but my Warns slid in sweet as could be. Plug off the vacuum line. Save your old ones and sell'em online. With a little monthly maintenance, they can be made usable.

Try a quick search and you'll find many like this one. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...onversion.html

Call Mile Marker directly to confirm. They will know for sure if you need peace of mind. They have very good tech support.

I have the hubs MMK-449SS from Summit on my X and they fit fine. There is a little bit of a rattle but from what I understand, there is supposed to be a shim/gasket that I may have been missing. There is a thread on here...I just need to find it.

The 449SS Mile Markers are a direct fit to to the Dana 60 front axle in your Ex. I have had them on my 2001 for 5+ years now and love them. To bad the Summit Racing rep didn't know what he was talking about. Maybe if you asked about headers......

This one and the post three below it by RUNVS have important info to know to fine tune the fitment.

I think the X has the Dana 50 on the front.

The local Manager at Advance Auto told me that the conversion kit would be due to the axle nut size. Evidently there are some out there with different nut sizes (hehe) and the hubs would not fit. I obviously cannot confirm this but he said they stock both the hubs and the kit in case it is needed. He also said it has not been common that people need the kit.

You are correct. I checked and up till 2002 both the Ex and the SD used Dana 50 front axles. Starting in 2003 the SD's went with the stronger Dana 60 in the front. They both use the Sterling rears.
