OK y'all I'm having to drop my trans and am needing some suggestions on the best way to get to the top bolts. (I've already removed the transfer case) I just have to get to the top end bolts.
A 3/8 drive extension about 36" inches long is a good start and use a ball type flex socket or universal to remove the bolts with an impact gun. To instal the bolts you will have to reach waaay up there and get them started, Then you can use the impact to run them in all the way. You do all that while the rear mount is loose and the trans is low in the back but supported by a trans jack.
Also, if you have never done this before, remember that when you are installing the torque converter that you MUST spin it while applying light pressure to the rear to be sure it is fully seated in the transmission and the front pump. You will hear and feel it go into the pump as there should be 2 distinct steps invoved as the converter seats itself. If you have any doubt that it is seated you should pull the converter out an inch or so and spin it while repeating the process. It is much easier to do it right while the trans is still on the jack than to have the trans bolted up and find out you did not seat the converter completely. You cannot pull the trans all the way to the block if it's not seated. This is a common mistake most of us have done at least once. Just do it right and not worry about it.
