Trans Coolant Lines Rusted Out

Hey all, any advice on changing these. There appear to be three of them ... two coming up from the transmission and a third one that is routed entirely at the front end. They have a rubber hose section crimped in to allow for flex. My big question is can I buy pre-made lines or do I have to make these similar to changing out brake lines? If I have to make them, what do I do about the rubber hose section? Finally, how much fluid will come out when I disconnect them. Only one let go and is leaking but they all look bad so I will change them all out. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike-G

In my opinion you don't need the flex sections at this late date.
Use the same size line ID.
Use power steering grade or high pressure hose rated for the use, if you want to put the flex back in or splice joints.
I would recomend you put a small amount of flare at any hose to metal tube joint and use two hose clamps on each joint.
The reason is to prevent the hose on the higher pressure side from blowing off.
Also after the repairs have some time on them, re-tighen the clamps because the hose relaxes under them and begin to seep.
Good luck.

You would get much more satisfaction from making your own lines. IMHO

7700 - no offense but I have been working on this truck for the last 5 weeks and I am sick of it. All steel and rubber brake lines, rotors, pads, cut out the LHS rocker and welded in a new one (painted it tonight), worn tires and rusted out rims ... I ordered new trans lines from the dealer and will get them tomorrow. I just want to drive this truck. Hopefully, next week it's all put back together. It's 13 years old and has not given me a bit of trouble until this summer. When it rains it pours. Thanks for all your advice.

Hey Mike, I know what your into.
When they wear out a lot of items seem to line up in a short time that need to be addressed.
Good luck.

Sorry Mike - I know what you mean about getting tired working on your own truck. The good news is that this absolutely cannot continue for long and in the end you've got a new truck.

Almost done with ... a bunch of jobs

Well I got the transmissions coolant lines in today. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be but it wasn't monumental either. getting all the lines to where they needed to go was the hard part. For the life of me I don't understand why Ford engineers didn't make the line from the transmission the the drivers top side of the radiator out of two pieces as they did with the other line from the transmission to the passenger side lower rad. That one (the driver side top) was a beast. Oh well, tomorrow, I'll top off the xmission, finish up the rocker job (put trim back on door) and hopefully, finally, I can go for a ride in it. Later all and this site ROCKS!
