I just swapped C4's in my 1979 F100, and The reason it failed was from fluid leakage from the cooler lines. I know i am a moron for letting it happen, but that is besides the point. Anyways, Can I make up new lines with rubber hose and clamps? The old lines have been patched with it and they seem to be holding up just fine. I also feel that rubber hose would give me much more flexability routing them away from my Headers and other hot things, What do ya'll think?
you can do that. i've got rubber hoses on my 66 mustang's c4. a lot of newer cars have rubber hoses connecting the cooler and the metal lines. i've seen a lot that have hose clamps on the ends factory. old transmissions run a lot lower pressure through the cooler than new ones. you might wanna look for high temp high pressure hose just for insurance. and if the end leaks, put 2 hose clamps on it.
One more question. I cannot remember where the vacuum line from the transmission goes to. it comes from the top of the tranny all of the way to the front of the engine compartment on a metal line. at each end is a rubber hose. i dont remember taking one off so I have no idea where this one goes. The engine is a 302.
