did the wire test from relay to positive terminal, got a click and truck turned over, put in a new ignition switch, still have my same problem
This indicates that it's the either the wiring to the ignition switch, or from the ignition switch to the relay. IIRC, the part of that wire going right to the relay is, technically, not a "wire" but a fusible link. It might be blown. If I don't forget, I'll check the EVTM for which part of the circuit is a fusible link.
We put the new H/D relay solenoid in last night it wouldn't start with the first try but we tried several times after that and it has started every time since and we went out this morning and she started on first attempt......maybe this is solved? If you get a chance can you send me a picture or a link to the fusible link you are referring to. I am really hoping this was my problem. When we took the old (supposably H/D solenoid) relay off it was very light and cheap looking compared to the new one I got was much heavier and solid looking.
The fusible link looks just like two wires running right next to each other. But if it's working so well now, that takes the fusible link off the suspect list. Guess you found out there's more than one definition of "heavy duty"....
I've been having the exact same problem. Happened to me last weekend 50 miles from home, now I'm hesitant to take the truck anywhere. Did the new relay help? any problems since??
