Tacks

Can someone tell me why they put tacks in cars and trucks with auto transmissions? thanks, Tim

Because it's nice to know what RPM you are operating at, good for diagnostics, and You can manually select which gear you are in, and you need a tach to know when to shift gears.

Mostly user entertainment unless the user is racing.

Folks were shifting gears manually long before tachs (not "tacks") were standard equipment.
