Front Spindle Nut Torque

Hey can anyone tell me what the torque spec is for a 04 Sport Trac 2 wheel drive?I'm going to change the front wheel bearings and need to know what the torque spec is for the spindle nut when I bolt everything back up.

Thanks

Are you referring to the lower ball joint nut torque on the 4x2? If so, that torque spec is 133 Nm or 98 lb-ft.

The torque for the nut and pinch bolt is 55 Nm or 41 lb-ft, and the torque spec for the outer tie rod end is 70 Nm or 52 lb-ft. And while we're listing specs, the torque spec for the bolts holding the ABS sensor is 7-11 Nm or 62-97 lb-in.

Ahh, yes. From the service manual:

Tighten the spindle nut while rotating the brake disc and hub. Torque nut to 23-34 Nm (17-24 lb-ft).

Tighten the spindle nut 175 degrees while rotating the brake disc and hub.

Tighten the spindle nut 2 Nm (17 lb-in) while rotating the brake disc and hub.

Install the following components:
  • Install the nut retainer.
  • Install the cotter pin.
  • Install the hub grease cap.

Effectively, what you found during your searching is correct (180 degrees would be half a turn).

Thats probably right. I have never used a torque wrench on a bearing nut on a 2 x 4 front end. The final test is AFTER you think you have it correct, make sure the hub turns very easly, even spin. IF you grab the disk top and bottom and try to shake it in and out, you should get a very minor bearing clearance "wiggle". It should not be tight, you need a few thousands clearance in the bearing to grow as it heats up.
