I know that this question has been answered a hundred time on here, but Im just having trouble finding a simple response. I have read about what I need to prevent caviation etc, but Im finally off this weekend and was going to change out the coolant etc. Long story short, I have been reading through some of the threads on this and cant find exactly what Im looking for.
If anyone could copy and paste what I need to protect my engine from cavitation, Id really appreciate it. I was looking to use fleetguard etc, but If someone has a step by step for me, Id appreciate the help. Thanks guys.
You can pick up 2 pints of NAPAKool (SCAs) at your local Napa Auto, along with the test strips, regular non-mixed coolant, and equal parts distilled water.
Or you can pick up the premixed Fleet coolant along with the test strips, also at Napa.
Drain your radiator and the two plugs on either side of the block to get all the coolant out. Flush with water if it comes out rusty or dirty. Fill with either the Fleet coolant or Coolant/Water/NapaKool mix. Run for a bit to get it all mixed up. Use the test strips and add coolant/SCAs as needed.
I run Fleetcharge myself and I have had no issues with it at all. If you don't know what you are running right now, give it a good, long flush and use distilled water ONLY. You should be good on additive for a while with the Fleetcharge but get some test strips from Napa and keep an eye on it. Check it every oil change and add DCA-4 if you are low. I think it can be found at the Ford dealership or some auto parts stores. This is the anti-cavitation additive. Don't use any other kind because mixing different kinds can cause a chemical reaction and clog your cooling system.
Since you have the system drained, change all the hoses and get a Ford ONLY thermostat. The aftermarket thermostats cause problems and should be avoided.
the additive in fleetcharge is pencool actually after more researching, which is the napakool stuff.
however after spending way to hours digging into it.mixing sca's between the two basic types all started years ago and was based on marketing propaganda.research shows sca's can be mixed with no ill effects.disregard all the misinformation you read pass around about not being able to mix sca's.it was based on false crap years ago after all.
fleetcharge also confirms and says the difference in ph between the two types are so miniscule they are pretty much one and the same and can be mixed freely.
that said,i just ordered the penray (peencool) need relase filter to keep mine charged.
im running the second basic blank wix filter to remove sandblasting, she's still throwing wicked heat after changing the first one.so i'll wait until another month or so before the penray filter.
anywho.charge away freely.main thing to be concerned with,is maintaining proper levels.adding too much is what will clog ya up.
so all the strips should fully read accurately no matter the brand too.
gotta love marketing hype to over complicate things hey?
