Ive got a set of destinations an I am trying to track down why my truck does not ride like it used too. Michelins were on it before an it seemed to id alot smoother. I got all 4 for 500 and they wear good however they may be a little hard of tire up under ou 4 ton trucks.
I suggest you check into either Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armours or BFG All-Terrains. I have had both, and had good luck with both. I currently run the GYs and have 77,000 miles on them (yes, they need replacment soon) and they have been the best winter weather tire I have ever owned.
I have had Firestone Destination A/T's on my Ex for the past 4 years or so. I love them. They are the stock size, load E. Great towing performance (nice stiff side wall) and also really good performance in the wet and snow. A very good tire that seems to be lasting a very long time. I would most definitely recommend them!!
I just replaced my stock Pirelli Scorpion STR 275/55/20 (32") with a set of the Destination A/T 275/60/20 (33")
The tires do ride rough. Not terrible, but if you are looking for a soft ride, they may not be for you (I'm also on 20's). They grip excellently, and the sidewall has zero flex. My Expy EL is close in weight to a 5.4 Excursion. I would not hesitate to buy these again.
If you want a more aggressive tire, the Goodyear Silent Armour rocks. I bought those for my last SUV. Wanted them for the Expy, but they didn't make the size I wanted. If you want a offroad looking tire, but still be A/T, look at the Goodyear Duratrac. Another amazing tire with good offroad manners and impeccable street manners.
Michelin of course is the king, but they don't look as nice as others...and are very pricey
I'm on my 3rd set of them on my expedition, thats about 160,000 miles on the tires, mostly highway miles but some off road and lots of winter driving.
Towed a ~5500 pnd camper with them, no big complaints there either.
I don't have any big complaints about them, every tire I've owned could be quieter as these could too. Keep the truck aligned, tires rotated/inflated and they wear decent.
