My 2cnd set of Firestone Steeltex tires on my 00 are shot. 41K 1st set 36K 2cnd set but tire wear isn't why I Hate Firestone - I blew the RR about a week ago. 70MPH on I81 w/ cattle trailer. I ruined the rim because it took a little bit to pull off. Nothing like changing a tire at night while trucks & cars are whizzing by @ 70Mph.
No more "cheap consumer tires" for me. I'm off to pick out a commercial rated 'E' or 'F' tire like the BF Goodrich Commercial T/A All season or T/A Traction. Taking a look at the Yokohoma's as well but they seem to be hard to find locally or online. Continental is another choice but I've heard quite a few horror stories about those.
Anybody running either of these - BF Goodrich Commercial T/A All season or T/A Traction - right now?
I'm leaning towards the traction version since I drive in mud quite a bit.
I have the bfgoodrich all terrain t/a on my f250 now for 20k and no problems. However I did have a set on my 03 ranger also and put 40k on them before I traded it off and they still had about 1/2 tread left and never a problem. BFGoodrich is definitely a good tire though, you'll be pleased
I wouldnt go with the yokos. I had one separate on my pickup. (there investigation said there was evidence of prior impact damage, who knows) I currently have Mastercrafts on my pickup and they seem to be wearing nicely. They have good traction, only complaint is they pick rocks up too easy. Just put a set of hankooks on my X. They ride nice and handle well on ice, but we'll see how they wear. My dad has always ran Michelins on his f250 with good luck. My local supplier cant get a good deal on them so I havent run them for a few years.
The Yoko's were in the mix cause they are made locally (Roanoke) but I really think I'm leaning towards the BFG Commercial tires now.
Only complaints I've found is a few folks not liking the dry pavement performance. (wandering) Saw a couple of comments about tread life being short on TireRack.com. Price there wasn't bad @ $118 ea + shipping. Nobody local has these in stock - it'll take 2-3 days to get them according to most places.
i put a set of toyo open country at's on my f250 last spring. i see almost no wear at all so far. bout 11,000 miles so far. i got 305/70/16(12/33/16) e range rated at 3540 lbs at 65 psi. they get good traction in the snow and sand. wouldnt do good in mud though i bet. i been loaded up to 16,000 lbs with no issues.
very quiet, good looking, good price.
I run the Toyo Open Country MT's 275/70-18. I only have about 2500 miles on them. Their not too loud and are load rated E. You'll pay about the same for the AT's.
I'm not a big fan of the Generals. In my opinion it's another cheap tire.
My BFG ATs (Load Range E) are doing very well, about 30K on them, look for at least 30K more. Not noisey, decent snow traction, good rain traction...ice traction could be better, but that would call for studs.
From my experience mileage from a tire on a diesel vs gas is much different. The SD we have at the plant has a 5.4 and the last set lasted 70k. I am lucky to get 40k out of a set on mine. The hankooks I put on my X are suppose to be designed for diesel pickups, we'll see how well they hold up.

WOW!!! Only $118 per tire...that is really really a good price. IMO...go with the Michelin tires. They have always lasted...and been a good over-all performer.
