Fuel pump question

On Ford mechanical fuel pumps which is the inlet and which is the outlet? One aide has a female screwin fitting the other a male barb fitting. I have nothing to go by since th PO took everything out. Thanks

With the fuel pump mounted, the forward port is the input and the rear is the output.

In the OEM setup, the barbed fitting connects to a flex hose and a hard line with an NPT fitting goes to the filter screwed into the carb.
