Check Coolant Additive
#16
Back in the 7.3L days, we used to test and periodically add the additive. 2-3 times in a 100,000 miles. I think it was something to prevent cavitation in the coolant. With my 6.0L, Nobody ever suggested that I needed to test and add additives. So I never did. It seems like we are back ( or maybe I should have been doing all along) to scheduled test and replacing or adding to the coolant during the life of the coolant.
I'm at 30,000 miles and will add the recommended amount of additive and continue my testing on a routine schedule.

I'm glad this came up here today. I got the message maybe around 15,000 and just accepted and cleared the message. I have also never had a brand new vehicle fail something like this, I was hoping anyway it would be the same. Sounds as if it is just a CYA sort of thing from Ford, and/or a way to give them a back door to not covering something under warranty.
As I have 21,000 now I'm going to see about ordering some test strips online. Does anyone have these sourced from somewhere other than a dealer?

It is a complete kit that provides a procedure/test for RA and contamination.
There is a 1 year shelf life for this!

Goto Acustrip and scroll down to "Extended Life Coolant Contamination Test Kit" (Rotunda part number 328-00008) and choose the 10 Test Strips version ($50).
It is a complete kit that provides a procedure/test for nitrates AND contamination.

I love my Earthroamer! This is my second one. I bought one of the first 2008 (6.4L) version in 2007 with the Michelin truck tires. The new one with the 6.7L and the MPT-81 tires is fantastic. It behaves incredibly well both on and off road. I got this one in February this year and already racked up 18,000 miles!

Since I marginally failed the contamination test, I stopped in at my local Ford dealer and asked for a bottle of the coolant additive for a 6.7L engine. Parts man handed me a bottle of VC-8. I specifically asked him if this was the additive for the 6.7L. He said " Yep same stuff we use in all the Powerstroke engines" I immediately handed it back and told him the 6.7L used a different additive. He gave me the look of You don't know what you are talking about.
I came home and checked the part number and we need the VC-12. I called back and asked him if he had the VC-12. He said no, but looked it up in the computer and said the distributor in Salt Lake had some and he could have it by Monday. I don't know how big the bottles are, So I had him bring in a couple of bottles. The Rotunda instructions say I should add 48oz to the primary system ( and a smaller amount to the secondary) if you fail the contamination test.
This is another case of don't trust the counter person to had you the right product.
