Well I've been researching the different chips/programmers and it seems to me that they all have about the same amount of likes as dislikes and they are pretty pricey if I get one that does'nt do what im wanting it to do. Mainly what I'm looking for more fuel mileage and a little more hp when you need it, would'nt hurt either by the way I'm also new to this site so far I like it.

Ok, regardless of it being gas or diesel I wouldn't get a chip/tuner for increased mileage. These are performance enhancing products first and foremost. A lot of the companies are trying to sell the angle of increase mileage and some people do see an increase, however, that increase varies greatly out there and I have to question some of the claims and if they really got as high as they did. Not saying that they are lying or embellishing the truth, but their method of MPG calculation might not be the best even though the think that they did that well.
Get a tuner for the performance, not the mpg. If you get more MPG then that's a bonus. However, I would go do the engine specific forum that applies to your truck and find what tuners are favored for it.

^This.
I bought a Edge tuner with custom tunes from Power Hungry Performance. I got one for basically the same reason you want one. I wanted to increase my trucks overall performance because it just felt so restricted. I also wouldn't have mined a MPG boost, but that wasn't my main reason for getting it. So far the mileage hasn't really been effected much, but the performance is much better. What I notice the most is the smoother shift points and the trucks willingness to get up and go when I need it to.
i bought the new superchips racing tuner, Awesome!! i went from 27kms/100L to 18kms/100L, i love it and the power gain is insane, i don't have the dpf done yet and still very happy!!!
With regards to “Chips” and “Tuners”, years ago it was the best that most could do to enhance the ignition timing, fuel curve, transmission shift points, etc. It was (and still is) very important that a person verifies that the “Tuner” is ASE certified in both ECM and Transmission programming and IMHO be have current certification by the OEM whose vehicle you want to modify. There are plenty of persons who advertise their programs to be the best and even offer custom tunes, but in all reality, very few actually have credentials in these areas- but that’s not to say that some of these “geniuses” haven’t really caused damage to a few vehicles- just jump over to flatratetech.com and read just some of the comments from the MSE techs!. Perhaps what is equally important is the parameters that can be adjusted are set by the OEM vehicle software…so there is really no “magic” in what they are doing anyway.
IMHO, if you live near any major city there are excellent tuning specialists with dynos who for the same price (if not less) will tune your vehicle taking into consideration your specific needs including environmental conditions, for your specific vehicle. IMHO, the best bang for the buck
