Some type of performance chip?

I have been on this forum one time before today. I kinda forgot about it. I'm lookin for some type of aftermarket performance chip that would allow me to get better fuel mileage. I have an 08 F250 super duty. Just wanted to hear what you guys reccomended.

Thanks

Most folks on this forum will recommend a tuner from 5star ( site sponsor) ,saving money for one myself. MPG's not much can improve them this is a work truck that is very well engineered and fuel economy was not a big factor in the design criteria.

Hello and welcome. The first thing is what motor do you have? The second thing is chips or programmers just aren't going to improve your mileage much. But will boost your performance. What do you want out of your truck and what do you use your truck for? Then you will get more info.

I also have an 08 250 5.4L and looking for a programmer primarily for better performance. I am looking at the SCT iTSX from 5star tuning... Anyone have any experience with it?

It's a 6.0 diesel. It's a daily driver, but I pull with it too. I regularly haul an 18' tandem axle trailer with 2 big ATV's. I also pull, on occasion, the same trailer with a bobcat. I just bought a 30' fifth wheel camper last week. I am having the fifth wheel hitch installed as we speak. So, it's a daily driver that gets worked a pretty good bit.

Super chips is what I used for my 6.0

Loved, had a tow setting and a mileage setting. Cheap and works good.

For the 6.0L ................

The only one that I have seen a fuel economy benefit from is the PowerHungryPerformance FICM tune. I just got it so I only have one tank's worth of experience with it (so only one datapoint). The benefit is around 1-1.5 mpg, so don't expect miracles, but it is pretty good savings if the improvement holds up.

Some people have seen an improvement w/ their ECM tune, but I didn't.

As far as ECM tunes go, you are MUCH better off with an SCT unit and custom tunes from one of several folks (Matt at GearHead, Eric at Innovative, Vivian at QuickTricks, or even Jody at DPTuner - although a LOT fewer people use him than the others).

Now, all that being said, Ford did not put a 6.0L in a 2008 F series truck - at least not that I am aware of!

i didnt think they did either. 08 is the year they changed to the 6.4L. if he has a 6.4L then his MPG really sucks. i have heard from a few fokes that 6.4L gets about 10 to 12 MPG empty.

hell, i get that with my 05 an it have a 6 inch lift running 37x13.5x18 all terrain tires.

You are correct! I didn't notice when I posted that, that my auto-correct on my iPhone "fixed" that for me. It IS a 6.4L. Can't believe it was just now recognized but thanks for the "catch" and your input!

It is a bone stock off road edition. I get 12.2 MPG no matter how I drive it. Even when I'm pullin I still get 11.9 MPG. I'd be happy if I got 2 more miles out of it.

There's so many things you could do to increase fuel efficiency. Don't expect a whole lot though. A DPF/CAT delete with a tuner, CAC pipe, synthetic lubricants, Air Intake. Even then, there's no guarantee you're going to see the 17% increase that you're looking for. But there are people who claim to have seen pretty healthy increases with such mods.
