transmission noise
2002 mm i have a what i believe is a transmission noise the od light flashed and went out if im in drive at a stop sign i hear a weird noise almost like water flowing thru a valve partially open.
Any thought would be great

Those servos are a fix for worn bores in the case, when these bores wear you have shifting issues. The noise you describe sounds more like a converter problem. The flashing light means there is a code stored in the transmission control unit (computer). Have the codes checked but it sounds like you may be dealing with a failing converter.

ok a little troubleshooting doneto see what happens if im on the highway cruisin 70 with od on if i go up a hill the light will flash at me but if i do the same with od off everything seems fine.

Chances are that the light is flashing due to one or more codes stored in the computer and I bet that's its about the converter and lack of lock up and the converter is making the noise because it has failed.

ok now we are at all stop will move a little but wont go far and before this it started shifting real funny so when i drop tranny is there anything i can look for to determine if its both the tranny and T/C or just either one? also dorr says 03/02 so how would i determine if i have the s or w tranny?

You are going to have to replace both the trans and converter.
I am assuming that you have a 02 Mountaineer, it should be the 5R55W.
98-01 - w/V6 4.0L - 5R55E
02-03 - w/V6 4.0L V8 4.6L - 5R55W
04-07 - w/V6 4.0L V8 4.6L - 5R55S

can anyone tell me about the trans cooler i just talked to a local reputable shop and he said something about a thermostat in the cooler ? the want 2500 for a complete rebuild and install with a 50k warranty does that sound about right? From what i read A.T., 6 cyl (4.0L), from 3/4/02 (5R55S), 4x4 and A.T., 6 cyl (4.0L), thru 3/3/02 (5R55W), 4x4 and i just called ford they said my car was built 3/22/02
