transmission noise

2002 mountaineer i have a what i believe is a transmission noise the od light flashed and went out if im in drive at a stop sign i hear a weird noise almost like water flowing thru a valve partially open.

Any thought would be great

You'd likely get better response in the transmission section further down the page. A transmission will produce whining noises for hydraulic leaks. I've never heard a leaking valve type noise.
The fix noted above would be used where the servos would try to contract the band and the band would slip. Most times there would be no noise, just the engine rpms increasing and the vehicle not moving, or moving slowly, or shifting into 'neutral' instead of another gear.
