Well after two years of keeping my truck stock its time for some upgrades. So this afternoon I ordered: ARP headstuds, EGR delete, all new gaskets for the top end, SCT SF3, and a Powermax Turbo.
Sooooo.... Im pulling the cab in 5-6 weeks and I have been searching all the posts to see what else I should do while I have the cab off and motor apart. Ive been looking through threads so long i cant think anymore. lol
I knew my 7.3 like the back of my hand but I havnt messed with the 6.0 much yet. Any tips and part numbers for the other stuff I need would be great.
What I dont want to do is.... Injectors(dont want them) or a regulated return(getting the wife to let me come off the money for the turbo was hard enough )
Thanks for the help and ideas.
to check the oil cooler the truck needs to be fulley warmed up and after temps stabilize at 65 mph and then compare ECT vs EOT no more than 15 degree spreed
You will be right there once you get all the stuff off the top of the moter
How about some particulars on your truck such as mileage, brand of filters and oil/weight. It helps if we know these things.
Things to do while you're in that deep: Oil cooler if needed, STC fitting unless it's been replaced, blue spring upgrade in the fuel pressure regulator (easy any time).

For those that for one reason or another don't want to do the RR kit do the Fuel CrossOver. Some say it's good enough, I dunno. I think that the RR kit is well worth the money involved, but that's just me.
Truck has 95K miles. I use motorcraft oil and filters. Havnt had any problems with the truck but Im wanting to tune it so Im taking the steps to do so. Where can I get the SCT fitting kit and I guess I dont understand how you check to see if the oil cooler is bad or not.
This article helps to understand the relationship of the oil temp and coolant temp, and has photos of the parts involved. I don't mean to confuse you with the talk here of the cooler swap ... it's just an easy cut & paste to explain a lot.
With an Edge Insight or a Scangauge II you can read what the realtime oil and coolant temps are. If the spread is over 15 deg F you likely have a clogged oil cooler. If the spread is less than 8 you are fine. If the spread is between 8 - 15 you may need to start reading about coolant system maintenance and backflushing the oil cooler to avoid expensive and labor intensive repairs.
BLADE35 is refering to addressing this cooler while you are in there if it's necessary.
While u have the heads off. Should do Standpipes & Dummy plugs to. An I wood do a coolant flush before I took it apart an then change oil cooler an once back together I would put a coolant filter on it.
