so i bought my 1987 dulley diesel but to tell the truth just not fast enough has stock tranny but i was told if i go with the e4od that i will get the speed on the highway i need so whos done it? what do i kneed? how hard is it?(im a novice mechanic at best i call myself a part changer not a mechanic but have friends who will help)i was told on this site it is easyest to get a doner truck but what year will fit without major modifications? i know that the 6.9 and the 7.3 idi are pretty compatiable so hit me back with some info if you know whats up

so you have the C6 right now? what gears you running? and also why you choose e4od? the zf5 would give you yet another gear and probably less install work. Especially cheaper...
X2 on ZF5, even though the ZF5 requires more work/time to the conversion, it's gonna be a heck alot cheaper than an E4OD, and failures are less than lately on a ZF5 compared to a automatic.
Third choice would be to keep the c-6 and add on a Gear Vendors overdrive unit. Look around for a used one. It's practically bolt on and then shorten the driveshaft. This is the route I went and never looked back.
not sure if its the c-6 i was told i have 3.55 gears its an automatic but i can tell youn for sure i only have 3 gears going forward the aftermarket od sounds great but i just recently watched a show where someone was shortining a driveshaft it was a mechanic shop and they said that was best left to the experts he called in a shop that specilized in driveshafts did you do your own? how hard was it?
