my 72 f100 with a 302 will just run dry even with a full tank does not happen all the time just once in a while no gas in carb will not start again for a while maybe 5 min it will idle but i cant drive it i got stuck on the highway 137.00 to tow it home anybody got any ideas.?
If you find no blockage or weakness issues then I would start looking to verify 100% you have no fuel. Me: '70 F100 302 when it got warm it wouldn't restart. Acted just lke a vapor lock. It was the coil. Do you have electronic ignition? With the control module? Let it run til it quits, pack the module in ice, see if it will start.
moter is a complete rebuild from bottom to top new fuel pump new fuel pump eccentric everything new. all new rubber on fuel lines only thing not new is steel fuel line from tank to pump. i took tank out and from what i could see it is clean inside and pick up tube looks good but every now and then the motor will just stop no fuel in carb completely dry. i have the vent canister disconnected vent tube just open to air i even have a vented gas cap not sure if that is good or bad. but i cant seem to find the problem.
My truck used to do that as well. I would drive it and all the sudden it would just die and not restart. I could wait a couple of minutes and it would fire right up. Turns out it was the cartdrige filter on the fuel pump. I would check that if you have the type of fuel pump with the cartridge filter.........Alot of people dont know its a filter there and its a cheap part to replace anyway.
I am not using the fuel pump with the cartrige filter I am using a stock fuel pump with a inline filter i checked it all is good and clean arrow facing in right direction. I am thinking it could be the vent tube i have the canister removed and the line just open to the air. Today i am going to change the fuel line from tank to pump i am shooting in the dark.
